Granny Takes a Trip

NEWS | Granny Takes a Trip – Book Launch, Art Happening & Tribute Event

On Friday, December 12, from 4 to 10 PM, the Kingston Pop Museum will host Granny Takes a Trip, a vibrant celebration of counterculture, art, fashion, and legacy — headlined by the official release of Soccer Fashion Icon, the long-awaited autobiographical epic by John Stavros.

This one-evening happening brings together collectible art and fashion from “Granny’s Vault,” live performances, and a multigenerational community of creators inspired by the spirit of reinvention that defined the 1960s, 70s, and beyond.

The night will feature live sets by Soulcake and Allie Lua Murray, plus new works by artists Ujjala, Zara, Cynthia Carlaw, and Stetz, each contributing to the show’s kaleidoscopic atmosphere.

A central moment of the evening will be a tribute memorial honoring the life and influence of Walter Steading — legendary musician, visual artist, pioneer of New York’s downtown avant-garde, and a close friend to many in the Kingston Pop Museum circle. His impact, both sonic and visual, continues to shape generations of artists, and the event stands as a collective homage to his enduring creative fire.

With the release of Soccer Fashion Icon, John Stavros adds a powerful new chapter to his transcontinental story — from Greece to New York, from the runway to the stadium, from the heart of rock culture to the frontlines of sport-fashion innovation. The Kingston Pop Museum marks this milestone with an event as bold, eclectic, and visionary as the man himself.
